EACS2023: 570 Impact of loneliness on frailty among people with HIV aged above 45 years in Taiwan C.C. Shih , S.C. Pan National Taiwan University Hospital, Infection Control Center, Taipei, Taiwan, Taiwan Positively Association, Taipei, Taiwan, National Taiwan University Hospital, Department of Internal Medicine, Taipei, Taiwan General data Abstract category: Ageing and frailty Abstract body Purpose: Frailty poses a significant risk for morbidity and mortality in people ageing with HIV (PWH). Ageing may be at increased risk of loneliness. However, the study of the correlation between loneliness and frailty among PWH is lacking in Taiwan. Method: This is a cross-sectional study by a self-administrated structured questionnaire. A total of 110 older PWH (≥45 years old) were enrolled and completed De Jong Gierveld Loneliness Scale, and Frail scale with the frailty phenotype (Fried criteria) from an outpatient HIV clinic in Taiwan. We aim to analyse the participants’ loneliness, frailty and associated factors. Results: In total, participants were predominantly male; the mean age was 57.3 ± 7.6 years(IQR 51.8-62), duration of HIV diagnosis was 17.2(IQR 14-21)years. 75(68.2%) were MSM, 45(40.9%) participant were living alone. There’re 24(21.8%) in prefrail and 1(0.9%) frail. The sense of emptiness and feeling rejected was significantly high in the non-robust group. We found the non-robust group had a lower social function (P < 0.001) but a high level of emotional and social loneliness (P < 0.05) than the robust group. Multivariable modelling revealed that gender, feeling rejected and perceived social isolation explained 22% of the variance in the frail score, above and beyond the effects of social loneliness (p < .001). Conclusions: Frailty increases the risk of falls, physical disability and premature death; therefore, it has been recognized as an emerging issue. Loneliness was an independent risk factor for frailty in people with HIV, which implies that facilitating their social connect network and social cohesion is critical to delaying the decline of frailty. However, more studies are needed to explore other contributory factors, such as stigma and sociodemographic factors for the PWH in Asia. Table 1.
