Etienne Rouen University Hospital, CeGIDD, Rouen, France, Emergences, Rouen, France, Rouen University Hospital, Infectious Diseases, Rouen, France General data Abstract category: Access and delivery of care Abstract body Purpose: By the end of 2022, 70570 Ukrainian refugees were registered in France. Following a European Union decision, a full coverage of health costs was guaranteed, and, as soon as March 2022, French guidelines advised a health checkup on arrival. We describe the results of a systematic checkup, including the screening of sexually transmitted infections, of Ukrainian refugees hosted in our city. Method: In June, September and December 2022, the university hospital and city services organized 3 consecutive health checkups for Ukrainian refugees. All were systematically proposed HIV, viral hepatitis B and C (HBV and HCV) and STI screening. Results: Overall, 83 refugees presented for checkup: 63 (76%) were women, the median age was 46 years (18-74), and 4 were <18. New diagnostics were detected in 0/20 men, and in 12/63 (19%) women: 2 (3.2%) HIV infections, including one HCV co-infection, 5 (7.9%) HCV infections including 2 with a positive viral load, and 1 (1.6%) chronic HBV hepatitis. The 2 HIV+ women were pregnant at their arrival in France, had not been screened before leaving Ukraine, nor in France after miscarriage for one, and voluntary abortion for the other. No other STIs (syphilis, chlamydia and gonococcal disease) where found. Gynecological care was provided to 3 (4.8%) women with breast cancer, ovarian cyst or history of excision. Conclusions: Most Ukrainian refugees arriving in France are women. This health checkup upon arrival made it possible to identify a serious disease in 19% of them, including in pregnant women which had no past screening for HIV, arriving from an unstable at war country. Overcoming cultural and language barriers ,and organizing a systematic health checkup encouraged by the particular status dedicated to Ukrainian refugees in Europe, is highly efficient in terms of individual health benefit, as well as for the prevention of horizontal and mother-to-child infectious diseases transmission.
