Opportunistic diseases have been supposed to affect the structure and function of cardiac valves. The prevalence of rheumatic fever has greatly decreased, and MS still results in significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. With the development of percutaneous mitral balloon commissurotomy (PTMC) Intervention treatment of MS has been revolutionized. This study aimed to evaluate the immediate impact of successful percutaneous transvenous mitral valve commissurotomy in retroviral-positive patients with MS using 2D echocardiography and DTI. Method: The study includes 11 retroviral-positive patients who underwent PTMC for severe MS between May 2014 and June 2020. Results: A history of paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnoea was present in 9(81.8%) patients. All patients underwent PTMC. LA size ranged from 33-62 mm. Pre-PTMC mean Mitral Valve Orifice Area (MVOA) was 0.71±0.36, Post-PTMC mean MVOA was 1.84±0.17. Pre-PTMC mean Mitral Valve Gradient (MVG) is 17.42±3.69, Post PTMC mean MVG was 5.54±1.09. Pre-PTMC mean Pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP) was 48.93±13.08. Post PTMC mean PASP was 29.56±7.71. The mean Left Atrium (LA) size was 44.9±/5.9 mm. Most patients had adequate LV function (EF >50%). The mean Ejection Fraction was 60.0 ± 5.8 %. Wilkin's score of patients ranged from 5-9. The mean score was 6.8±1.0. Conclusions: We discovered a connection between the stages of HIV infection and the onset of valvular heart disease. We showed that people with HIV frequently had valvular heart problems. Our results encourage routine echocardiography examinations, despite the fact that the majority of cardiac abnormalities are moderate. The primary technique for evaluating the severity and effects of MS is echocardiography. PTMC is an effective and safe method in treating MS in retroviral-positive patients when performed by an experienced operator in a carefully selected patient. General conditions 1.
